LOVE IS IN THE AIR Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! This is the month when we remember loved ones, nearby or far away, friends who mean so much to us that we often put off getting in touch with, so find some cute Valentine cards on the computer and send them out to brighten someone's day, buy some surprise gifts for your family, be especially loving to your mate, and give some extra to your favorite charities. In Mexico Valentine´s Day is called Dia de Amistad, or Day of Friendship.
This is the first time I have been so late getting out my newsletter, but due to the latest baaad computer virus, my machine got very ill and had to go to the computer hospital. Thanks to good friends who repaired it, I did not lose my list and files. We don't realize how much we depend on computers until we are without them for a while. Be sure to have virus protection software installed on your computers and update it frequently to cope with the newest viruses.
FEBRUARY CULTURAL EVENTS We have already had one Old Town Art Walk on Feb. 4 which was very well attended. Our show at Galeria Vallarta featured watercolors of Mexican scenes by Harold Logan, a former Vallarta resident from Canada, who nowlives part of the year in San Miguel Allende. He is also working in oils and mixed media although he did not bring those for this event. In addition to the watercolors, we were proud to show new oil paintings by Cecilia Bojorquez. Her round format painting of a nude called Fumando Espero captured much attention as did her mixed media abstracts and encaustic paintings, which are done with colored wax and a heat process.
Galeria Vallarta at Plaza de Neptuno offered a special showing on Jan. 30 for a new artist from Mexico City...Itziar Renaud. She is a lovely and extremely talented young lady both in oil painting and bronze sculptures. She will be exhibiting in Buenas Aires in March, so be sure to drop by to see her work while it is still on display in Vallarta. The show is entitled Parallel Worlds.
Next Old Town Art Walk will be Wednesday, Feb. 18 with Claudia Nery's new paintings. We are eagerly awaiting her next creations and will be pleased to send photos to those of you who cannot attend.
Galeria Uno will present an exposition of works by the famous Vladimir Cora and Galeria Arte Latinoamericana will be showing new creations by local favorite, Marta Gilbert. Galeria Corona will feature Bella Rish. T. Fuller Gallery opened an exhibit for Davis Birks on Feb. 6 which is continuing until the next art walk. I don´t have the list of all the exhibits at hand, but you will always enjoy visiting the 12 downtown galleries and meeting the artists and friends of the arts.
On Friday, Feb. 20 from 6 to 10 p.m. there will be another Decor Art Night at Marina Vallarta and Plaza Neptuno. Arte de las Americas will feature art by Jack Hooper, EM Glass Gallery will present jewelry by Arq. Estela Herrera, Galeria Flores will show oils and watercolors by Luis Castellanos, and Galeria Vallarta in Neptune welcomes Javier Zaragoza from Ajijic and Carlos Cuevas from San Luis Potosi, both famous for their oil portraits of indigenous people, as well as exquisite still lifes. Sculptor Rodo Padilla in Neptune center always has a wonderful selection of whimsical figures in bronze and stoneware. Plus you will love the new selections of decorative items at Equilibrium, Meshik Gallery, Artell and Arte Primitivo.
Galeria Dante on Basilio Badillo is showing the exquisite watercolors of Meg Munro from Feb. 7 to 20 and then will present works by Oscar Capeche, along with a presentation of Los Bambinos inaugural CD "Fiesta Music of Vallarta" on Sat. Feb. 21 from 6 to 10.

A VALENTINE MESSAGE There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real!
When the door of happiness closes, another opens; but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one that has been opened for us.
Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth - even that fades away.
Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.
Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.
The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the on who is smiling and everyone else is crying.
Please send this message to those people who mean something to you, to those who have touched your life in one way or another; to those who make you see the brighter side of things when you are really down, to those whose friendship you appreciate; to those who are so meaningful in your life. And if you don't, don't worry, nothing bad will happen to you, you will just miss out on the opportunity to brighten someones day with this message!
