ROMANTIC JUNE
June is the month of weddings and Puerto Vallarta is becoming famous as a place to have that very special wedding, perhaps on the beach or on a rooftop at sunset, taking advantage of all our natural beauty and great climate. A great place for a honeymoon!
Puerto Vallarta just celebrated its anniversary on May 31 with a great concert by Alejandro Fernandez on the Malecon. The cultural events put on by the Dept of Culture are only announced weekly, so for the first week of June there will be Latin American music by Grupo Intihuayno in the kiosko of the main plaza each day from 10 am to 1 pm and Grupo Imbaya from 8 to 10 pm, as well as Grupo Arcano from 8 to 10 pm on the Malecon. Sunday and Thursday from 6 to 7 pm you can listen to the Municipal Band, sit on the park benches and experience some nostalgia.
On Sunday, June 5 there will be a concert of La Calavera from 8 to 9:30 in Los Arcos outdoor theater. The remarkable Voladores de Papantla perform on the Malecon at 6, 8:30 and 10 pm. A special free concert is held at the Cuale Cultural center the first Thursday of each month, (June 2) at 8:30 pm.
On Friday, June 3 there is a free movie shown at the Isla Rio Cuale cultural center. Speaking of movies, the new CineMark theater at Plaza Caracol has opened 2 screens and will have 6 more to be finished soon. Vallarta presents the latest movies almost as soon as in the states in our various theaters, plus all the videos and DVDs available at Blockbuster and other video rental places, and foreign and art films shown at Café Roma and by the Culture Dept.
"A Night with the Phantom" is getting great reviews. You can see it at Santa Barbara dinner theater on Olas Altas on Sunday evenings. Call 223-2048 for informatin and reservations. A benefit breakfast for Becas Vallarta (scholarships for deserving Vallarta students) will be held at Citrus Restaurant in Plaza Villas Vallarta on Tues. June 7 from 9:30 a.m to 12:30 pm. You will enjoy a great style show, raffle prizes and a great breakfast for only $100 pesos. Call 221-5185 or 223-1371 for reservations.

SUMMER ART SPECIALS
Several of our wonderful artists at Galeria Vallarta have offered special discounts on some of their paintings in order to prepare for the next season. You will find special prices on art by Claudia Nery, Dimitar Krustev, Javier Zaragoza, Dionicio Becerra, Steven King, and Manuel Valles Gomez among others. Also Manuel Valles Gomez has sent in some beautiful small format oils and sketches, starting at $1,000 pesos. He also sent a great selection of original hand carved wood masks with decorations of leather, shells and stones.
In addition we have a selection of decorator oils at very reasonable prices, and lots of prints by Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo and Octavio Ocampo, some of which are prints on canvas which do not require glass. Remember our in house framing service. Low season is a good time to have framing done quickly or to redo your existing art which may need refreshing. Be careful where you hang your art during the rainy season to avoid damage by moisture.
