HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! The 4th of July is always celebrated in Puerto Vallarta with various activities. This year there will be a Community Charity Party at Collage Club from ll a.m. to 5 p.m. with the proceeds going to help the Aids Foundation, Downs Syndrome, Casa Hogar, Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza, the Food Bank, Red Cross, the Handicapped Group, the Firemen, the International Friendship Club, DIF, Cerebral Palsy Children, Toys for Tots, Vallarta Naval Hospital and others. Free Admission and you can enjoy music, contests, video games, pool tables, raffles, live shows, food, beer and refreshments. Join the fun and help those less fortunate than ourselves.
Vallarta hotels also have special events such as Hotel Premiere who is hosting a special art exposition and cocktail for their guests. The paintings will be provided by Galeria Vallarta and will include Carlos Cuevas, Dimitar and Helen Krustev, Roberto Herrera and Eduardo Iņiguez.
Fireworks will be seen around the bay, but of course we enjoy fireworks in Vallarta every night. There will be a special concert at the Palacio Municipal (City Hall) by Nestor Villaseņor at 8 p.m. on July 4th. We should all give thanks for our own independence and trust that we and our children will always have freedom to live and travel where we want, to worship and believe what we want, and to enjoy life without fear. We are looking forward to a much better year ahead, and hope everyone will want to visit Puerto Vallarta to experience the freedom we enjoy here and the beauty that surrounds us every day.
SUMMER EVENTS On July 12 at 9 p.m. Le Petite France presents a special celebration to commemorate the French Revolution with a fabulous gourmet dinner, music, dancing and an art show featuring Vallarta painter and portrait artist, Cecilia Bojorquez, one of Galeria Vallartaīs featured artists. All through July Le Petite France will host special events with French themes, and always serving their fine cuisine.
July 6 is election day in Vallarta and a new mayor will be chosen. The campaign has been hot, with a lot of mud slinging, so it will be interesting to see if the PAN or PRI wins out. Whoever wins, lets hope they will give the much needed help to the central historic district, making sure the buses quit polluting and speeding, that we have the necessary tourist information booths that have been promised for so long, that we donīt allow the ambulantes (illegal vendors) to take control of our Malecon and beaches, that regulations and laws are observed and that the urgent parking areas are immediately provided in the central area.
Meetings are being held to plan the Art Walks for next Season in Old Town and the Marina, and the dates have been tentatively set starting in October. More news about this in the next issue. There are also rumors about special events for Plaza Neptune, so watch for more information.

HOME REMEDIES Here are some tips sent to me via email that might come in handy, especially with the kids out of school for the summer. Try some out and let me know how they work.
Drinking 2 glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately without the side effects caused by traditional pain killers.
Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Put one tablespoon of horseradish in 1/2 cup of olive oil and let set 30 minutes, then apply as a massage oil for instant relief of aching muscles.
For skin blemishes, cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a band aid over it . Honey kills the bacteria and it works overnight.
Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. Leaves your toenails looking healthy.
Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.
For sore throat, just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4cup of honey and take one tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.
Soapy water thrown on a wasp nest at dusk when all the wasps or hornets are on it, kills them, eggs too. It smothers them, as they breathe through their pores.
For splinter removal, put a drop of Elmerīs Glue all over the splinter, let dry and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.
To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine, a powerful antiseptic.
Heinz vinegar helps heal bruises. Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for one hour, to reduce blueness and speed up healing.
To kill fleas instantly, add a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid to your dogīs bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well and goodbye fleas.
To avoid your catīs hairballs, apply a dollop of Vaseline petroleum jelly to the catīs nose. The cat will lick off the jelly, lubricating any hair in itīs stomach so it can pass easily through the digestive system.
