THE TRAGEDY ON THE GULF COAST
Who could believe that the historic city of New Orleans, as well as Biloxi and so many other Gulf coast areas could be so devastated by a hurricane? As we all watch the news and see the terrible suffering and desperation experienced by the victims of this disaster, we must stop and give thanks to God that we are in a safe place, and think how we can best offer help to the people who have lost everything, including family members.
Wherever you are, please check with the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army,or other charities to see how you can send some aid as quickly as possible before the situation gets any worse. Among the 60 nations who have offered their help for the tragedy was our Mexican president Vicente Fox.
It brings to mind our hit by Hurricane Kenna here in Vallarta, but the damage was limited to a small section of the ocean front, and did not affect the rest of the city. After two years we are just now getting the seafront repaired, with the extension of the Malecon to Olas Altas completed.
Keep in mind that if you are warned about a pending hurricane or storm, go to a safe place before it hits. Our lives depend so much on electricity, water, access to food, fuel, transportation and a roof over our heads, all that we take for granted, it is just impossible to comprehend being without these essentials. Pray for the victims of this terrible tragedy and help them however you can.

The daughter of "India Marìa" was the master of ceremonies in the event which included short presentations by university professors and local ecology leaders on the importance of green areas in the center of the city of Puerto Vallarta and their reasoning for opposing the city government's program of converting 4 city parks into parking lots.
