Excerpts from an article by Anjelica Huston:
"My father´s love affair with Mexico dates from his teenage years on a quest for adventure as a lieutenant in the Mexican Calvary. Here was the idea that you could still commute with nature, lose yourself in the elements of sun, rain, wind and water, in the spirit of the people, who loved and accepted him as one of their own. Mexico represented the untamed spirit, from the depths of the jungle to the heights of the Mayan civilization, from the bloody battles of the natives and conquistadors to the sophistication of Mexico City in the 30s and 40s. He was inspired by the art in Mexico, and was a great admirer of Diego Rivera, Covarrubias, Tamayo, Siqueiros and the architect Barragan. My father´s legacy in Mexico, particularly in Puerto Vallarta, lives on in wonderful ways. Las Caletas was his refuge. He found great happiness there in his last years...in the jungle, beside the sea, lit by the stars. My family and I thank you for this beautiful tribute to John Huston...a man who carried Mexico in his soul."

NICOLAS DE JESUS IN PARIS
The unique artworks of Nicolas de Jesus, who specializes in Dia de los Muertos themes, as well as indigenous village scenes on handmade bark paper, have now been shown in Paris in two exhibitions. Nicolas made a name for himself when he helped to initiate the engraving workwhop at the Mexican Fine Arts Museum in Chicago where his work appeared in books and videos, and later he returned to his native village of Amelyaltepec, Guerrero, where he produces his finely detailed etchings. He has created one artwork called Paris with skeletons flying around the Eiffel Tower, as well as homages to the Twin towers in New York. A great selection of his etchings are now on exhibit at Galeria Vallarta.
